Senior Advisor, Lean Healthcare

Job Summary

Purdue Health Advisors (PHA) provides lean, quality and Health IT services to healthcare organizations as they transition from fee-for-service to value-based care and face other challenges of healthcare reform. There are major changes happening at every level in healthcare today and the need to be systematic and human-centric in how we handle those changes has never been greater.

 

That is why PHA’s mission is to work with clients to build their capacity for change and our vision is a system that takes a broad view of health and focuses on wellness and access to care for all in need.  Building a capacity for change requires a deep understanding of how individuals, teams, organizations and systems learn, develop, change, grow and get through crisis. We are fortunate, as part of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE) in Purdue’s Discovery Park, to have access to world-class scholars and researchers in those areas. Our role at PHA however is not research, it is to work side-by-side with researchers, clients and other practitioners to harness the best thinking and tools into products and services that can be used by clinics, hospitals, health systems, public health departments and other healthcare organizations to effectively make and manage change

 

The Senior Advisor is an expert in continuous improvement (CI) and has had demonstrated success leading highly complex projects to build organization-wide capabilities in lean, facilitating multidisciplinary problem-solving teams and coaching key personnel and small groups in making the personal transformation needed to adopt CI thinking and behaviors. They are expected to provide input into strategic program development, generating innovative ideas for new offerings, and must be able to generate sales.   This position may be tasked with developing new service offerings, supervising small teams or otherwise contributing to the service line.

Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, healthcare, technology or related 
  • Lean Silver Certified or other advanced-level lean /continuous improvement certification (e.g. TPS)
  • Six years of progressive professional experience in Lean, continuous improvement, process improvement or service design/innovation work
  • Three years working in a healthcare or non-manufacturing field
  • Experience leading complex projects, facilitating multidisciplinary teams and coaching key personnel and small groups
  • Demonstrated ability to use multiple lean tools and solutions (e.g. value stream mapping/analysis, Kaizen, A3, PDCA, 5S, Gemba walks, Takt time, Kamishibai boards, LMS, root cause problem solving, Kanban, SMED, flow cells) to facilitate team discovery, problem-solving and continuous improvement

  • Strong capability to lead teams, mentor and coach others as well as ability to work effectively, develop and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships with diverse groups of people at all levels of the organization and with external constituents

  • Capable of working independently with little supervision, but also capable of working well in a dynamic team environment

  • Developed network of healthcare industry contacts

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Strict adherence to Purdue confidentiality policies

  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Lean Gold certified
  • Hands on experience with organizational learning, culture change and capability building efforts
  • Experience building and supporting online communities of practice
  • Skilled at developing advisory content including white papers, online training, and briefings

Additional Information:

  • The office location for this position is in West Lafayette, Indiana
  • Remote work from home within Indiana may be available for this position
  • This position requires the ability to travel up to 75% of the time. Travel may be in or out of state
