Senior Associate Director of Programs

Job Summary

The Senior Associate Director of Programs will work collaboratively with and report to the Director. Responsibilities include managing the services, functions, and resources of the departmental program areas to include challenge education, climbing, club sports, fitness, intramural sports, nutrition, and wellness. Responsible for oversight of departmental assessment, strategic engagement, student development, alumni outreach, and development. Work collaboratively with and provide leadership to full-time and graduate staff in each of these areas to develop, program and administer comprehensive programs and services that are in line with the mission and values of the department. Responsible for supervising, evaluating and leading the staff to ensure continuous professional and personal development. Expected to build and cultivate relationships with numerous campus constituents to help advance the mission of the university, the division, and the department. Responsible for leading departmental initiatives and projects to include fiscal management and strategic planning. Serve on the senior leadership team and management team to provide leadership to the department with the execution of numerous executive and administrative duties of considerable scope and complexity requiring excellent knowledge, initiative, judgment, and critical thinking. 




  • Master's degree
  • Six (6) years of administrative and management experience in recreational programming on the collegiate level
  • Experience hiring, training, managing, and developing professional staff
  • Valid US or Canadian driver's license
  • Ability to serve as a strong leader; offering long term vision and strategic planning that will contribute to the development and enhancement of a comprehensive university recreational program that will serve the entire community
  • Must show the ability to work collaboratively with partners across campus and in the community to advance the mission and goals of both the university, the division, and the department
  • Ability to lead department initiatives such as strategic planning, departmental budget management, capital replacement planning and execution, capital project management, program development and continuous quality improvement in all areas
  • Demonstrated  ability to supervise, manage and mentor a multitude of recreation and wellness programs, services and facilities as well as professional staff
  • Ability to be an integral part of division fiscal planning and development
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies
  • Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills
  • Proficient at mainstream computer software (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.) and experience in enterprise software


  • Preferred areas of study include higher education, recreation, and sports management, kinesiology or related field

  • This position may require some evening and weekend work

  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
