Job Summary
As a Senior Energy Technician for the Operations and Maintenance Dept., you will:
- Perform building and system commissioning (retro, on-going, and new construction) activities including the inspection and evaluation of the operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment on campus.
- Inspect and evaluate each mechanical and electrical system in the building plus the overall operation of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, in conjunction with all other energy-consuming utilities within the entire building envelope.
- Utilize the building automation system (BAS) software, computers, meters, monitoring devices and measurement devices necessary to properly identify and diagnose problems.
- Establish the proper safety precautions to be observed, instruments to be used, and types of measurements necessary to perform the tasks required to perform commissioning.
- Test systems and adjust controls to ensure systems are properly functioning.
- Work with outside commissioning consultants and support Central Shops, Zones, Engineering, Utilities and Construction Teams in the installation of and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.

What We Are Looking For
Required:
- High School diploma/GED and four years of experience with heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in a University or industrial setting required.
- Knowledge of electrical control systems; heating, venting and air conditioning units; fan coil units; chilled water and steam distribution equipment; fume hoods and both mechanical, direct digital controls and pneumatics required.
- Ability to successfully complete module five and six of the Indoor Air Quality Apprenticeship program.
Skills:
- Good oral and written communication skills and mechanical aptitude required.
- Must proficiently use word processor and spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical material necessary.
- Use various formulas to calculate proper system settings as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret various types of blueprints and control schematics.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints along with interpreting sequence of operation necessary.
- Must be able to lift and carry 10-25 lbs. frequently, and up to 40 lbs. or more occasionally.
- Exposed to adverse conditions such as electrical hazards, extreme cold and heat, confined spaces and working from heights.
- Personal protective equipment required during specific operations.
- Valid Driver’s License necessary.
