Senior Laboratory Safety Manager - Radiological Environmental Management

Job Summary

Assist to develop plans for Radiation Safety and Industrial Hygiene and direct plan implementation. Assist the Director to develop university and operational policies, procedures and goals. Serve as an advisor for campus environmental health and safety issues and assist campus stakeholders in operational and research areas. Coordinates and conducts training and consultation for University staff and students relative to the safe; handling, disposal, use and/or maintenance of laboratory chemicals, equipment, respiratory protective equipment, the proper use of fume hoods and other and other hazards in university laboratories.  Assist with hazard assessment development, advise employees in safety and regulatory compliance, and recommend remediation as necessary. Serve as a member of the University Chemical and Laboratory Safety Committee. Serve as Laboratory Chemical Safety Manager in support of Radiological & Environmental Management staff members, research principal investigators and laboratory personnel. Specialize in Industrial Hygiene. Work independently to functionally manage Chemical Hygiene Plan and make recommendations for consideration by the Chemical and Laboratory Safety Committee.  Cross-train with other areas of Radiological and Environmental Management.  May involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and enclosed spaces.  Subject to 24-hour callback.

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry or related science field 
  • Two years’ experience in laboratory or research setting 
  • Knowledge of EPA/OSHA requirements for chemical management and safety
  • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal, and training skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills

Preferred: 

  • Ph.D. 
  • Knowledge of safety and health regulations
  • ASP, CSP, CIH or related certifications
