Senior Photographer

Job Summary

Purdue Marketing and Communications serves as the chief storyteller and a driver of inspiration, growth, and prosperity for the Purdue portfolio through deliberate positioning, promotion, and protection. As a Senior Photographer, you will use visual storytelling to build affinity, enhance Purdue’s national and global reputation, attract the best students, motivate alumni and donors, and recruit high-quality faculty and staff. The focus will be capturing Purdue Global imagery used for various marketing and engagement purposes with opportunities to contribute to additional Purdue portfolio workstreams. The role will coordinate photographic planning, shooting, and editing alongside a project team under limited supervision. May manage projects or processes which are often difficult and complex. In addition, you are responsible for the archive, file, and maintenance of photographic databases. You must have the ability to balance short- and long-term deadlines, accept and process feedback, and work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels. Some travel (<20%) may be required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study
  • Four (4) years of professional photography experience
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Demonstrated familiarity and skill with photo editing software (Photoshop & Lightroom) 
  • Ability to set up various types of in-studio and on-location lighting sets 
  • Strong understanding of technology and equipment, including cameras, lenses, and specialized software  
  • Ability to maintain equipment, report any problems or broken equipment, and report any editing software needs or issues 
  • Ability to upload photo assignments into the Digital Asset system (PhotoShelter) with keywords and metadata 
  • Ability to collaborate with photo requester on photo assignments to be within brand guidelines 
  • Ability to log shooting and editing hours in project management system 
  • Ability to maintain a supportive atmosphere for fellow photo and video staff 
  • Ability to coach and review work of lower-level professionals, providing constructive feedback 
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including evenings and weekends



  • Knowledge of Nikon camera
