Senior Research Associate

Job Summary

The Senior Research Associate will play an active role in intellectual leadership in the molecular biology research program and assume a leadership role in developing grant proposals, writing grant proposals, and playing an active role in grant management which will include ensuring grant deliverables are met, reports are properly prepared and submitted. This position is responsible for designing, performing and directing research experiments and writing research papers for publication as well as taking the lead on writing manuscripts and may also be a senior author of manuscripts. Additional duties will include but are not limited to:

 

  • Managing others in the writing of papers, including conceptualization of research, enacting the research, collecting and analyzing data, writing of initial drafts, collecting edits from co-authors, submission of manuscripts, dealing with reviewer and editor comments, and final editing of galley proofs for publication
  • Advising graduate students, undergraduates, and service personnel concerning research
  • Engaging in literature and conferences towards identifying and enabling new laboratory techniques in the rapidly evolving research fields of molecular biology, metabolomics, proteomics, and genomics
  • Identification of request for proposals, planning for grant proposal writing, and details of proposal development and submission of all documents

 

Required:

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, entomology or related field
  • Post-doctoral or professional staff experience carrying out molecular biology and genomics experiments in insects
  • Experience in grant writing and grant management
  • Experience in management of overall research program
  • Extensive knowledge of molecular biology experiments and genomic experiments and analysis
  • Extensive knowledge of molecular biology experimental approaches and specialized laboratory techniques with different species of insects or plant systems or both
  • Extensive experience in writing of manuscripts towards peer-review publications
