Senior Research Security Analyst & Investigator

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Research Security Analyst & Investigator to join Purdue’s Research Security program.  This position reports to the Associate Director for Research Security and supports related projects.  The Senior Research Security Analyst & Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations in the area of foreign influence vulnerability, supporting Purdue’s compliance with NSPM 33 as well as other Research Security related Federal regulations, and promoting the protection of the university’s intellectual currency.  Additional responsibilities include: promoting and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations related to foreign influence; collaborating with researchers and administrative units as well as other key stakeholders in conducting compliance reviews; and engaging in compliance activities.  The ideal candidate will be able to see the big picture, think critically, identify trends, and maintain tremendous attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and conduct a thorough analysis of Purdue faculty and staff international activities for compliance with federal, state, and university requirements, including assessing institutional risk 
  • Review conflict of commitment and conflict of interest reports involving international activities
  • Assist Office of Legal Counsel with responses to sponsor inquiries  
  • Conduct foreign influence screenings using risk-based assessments for identified employees and visitors
  • Prepare research security evaluations and responses
  • Collect, review, and appropriately preserve documentation related to reviews and investigations
  • Track completion of investigative activities and independently perform follow-up where necessary
  • Evaluate international activity requests (including foreign contracts and travel plans), identify related research security risks, and propose risk management strategies
  • Summarize research security compliance issues based on various documents, including employee disclosures, management plans, proposals, contracts, awards, publications, patent filings, etc.
  • Draft guidance and correspondence supporting international risk assessment and mitigation efforts
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of changes to any laws, regulations, and policies that could impact the investigatory process.
  • Support the Research Security team via other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Four (4) years of audit, investigation, conflict of interest or related experience 
  • Experience working with complex federal and state regulations
  • Ability to collect and organize data, establish facts, define problems, draw valid conclusions, and communicate them to leadership
  • Ability to manage complex investigations 
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience in research administration and understanding of sponsor requirements
  • Experience collecting and analyzing complex data
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Sound independent judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Competency in various computer programs, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Visual Compliance, Teams, and Zoom



  • Master’s degree or JD
