Senior Composites Simulation Engineer

The Composites Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC) at Purdue University develops cutting-edge digital twins for composites manufacturing simulation for high-rate and high-performance applications across aerospace, automotive, and other sectors. The CMSC Simulation Engineer’s primary responsibilities are executing industry and internal research programs focused on developing and exercising digital twins for composites manufacturing and performance, often by connecting multiple simulation tools to model manufacturing processes and resulting performance.  The position is an integral team member and will work closely with CMSC leadership, engineers and industry sponsors.



  • Master's degree in mechanical, aerospace, civil, chemical or related engineering field
  • Three (3) years of research experience in composite materials, structures and/or processing
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Knowledge and experience with composites modeling, simulation and analysis, including finite element analysis  
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to set goals, prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 to 20 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally



  • PhD in mechanical, aerospace, civil, chemical or related engineering field
  • Understanding of and experience modeling composites mechanics, manufacturing, and performance
  • Experience with composites simulation tools: CATIA, Abaqus, LS-DYNA, ANSYS, ALTAIR, Digimat, PAM-COMPOSITES, with particular interest in Dassault Systemes tools
  • Experience developing and implementing material models, user subroutines and user interfaces
  • Strong programming skills: Python, Fortran, C/C++, HPC, cluster, GPU, or parallel processing experience
  • Understanding of API concepts
  • Experience working with large data sets; high-speed computing; and multi-scale, multi-physics problems
