Senior Software Engineer

Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE) is announcing a search for a Senior Software Engineer/Cloud Computing Engineer with the goal of creating a state of the art data architecture for extensive health data such as electronic health records (EHR), wearable devices, among others. The data platform would be used for cutting edge solutions for advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence applications with a goal of developing a new paradigm for evidence-based medicine.

This challenging but attainable position is an exciting opportunity in an area that will have tremendous growth and impact across the technology and health sciences, and pharmaceutical industries in the next few years.

The Senior Software Engineer/Cloud Computing Engineer will be responsible for the development and management of RCHEs computational infrastructure and on-premise computing systems. Under the technical supervision of the Director of Data and Computing, the individual will define RCHE’s needs based on the research efforts and customers to ensure the essential functionality of the computing systems.  The Senior Software Engineer/Cloud Computing Engineer will also be responsible for developing core components of the computing resources, including cluster management, audit, and compliance software, updating and testing the computing infrastructure, and understand how the technology fits into the larger scheme of RCHE’s needs.  Finally, the individual will help to design, develop, and support software technology to support HIPAA requirements and other privacy and compliance issues that arise.


  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Four years' experience in computational systems development and big data architecture using open source technologies such as Hadoop, JuptyterLab, and Docker
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Advanced skills in Linux shell scripting language, programming languages such as Java, Python, or C 
  • Advanced skills in data systems design experience using health data such as electronic health records and insurance claims


  • Experience in a cloud computing environment such as Amazon Web Service is a plus
  • Experience using health data such as electronic health records and insurance claims
