Service Maintenance Worker - Operations & Maintenance

Job Summary

The successful candidate will perform a variety of repair and maintenance duties for Operations and Maintenance.  To include but not limited to: kitchens, equipment and building structures including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, plastering and locksmithing.  Respond to and prioritize work orders.  Troubleshoot to diagnose problem and determine repair or maintenance.

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Three years general maintenance work experience 
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, painting, plastering and locksmithing
  • Mechanical aptitude and leadership skills helpful
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and written and verbal instructions, perform basic math functions
  • Competencies for this position are work standards and productivity, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations, decision making, and dependability; may include financial, coaching, delegation, and planning 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and coworkers, and customers
  • Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, walk or stoop extensively
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds 
  • A valid US or Canadian drivers’ license 

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with University policies regarding building maintenance and security

Additional Information:

  • Purdue will not sponsor an employment authorization for this position
  • The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • A Background Check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA:  Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan
