Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic, credentialed veterinary technician for our Small Animal Surgery Team. This position will work closely with our soft tissue surgeons and residents and serve as the communication through point for clients, referring veterinarians, and the specialty departments within the hospital. Get ready to put your communication and organizational skills on display! Typical shifts will also involve assisting with in-patient treatments, OR circulating, and anesthesia monitoring for both OR and outpatient procedures. This position includes an after-hours anesthesia on-call rotation. 

 

All veterinary technicians in the hospital have the opportunity to continually learn new skills and techniques. This knowledge leads to teaching those skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. We are looking for someone with a solid base of organization, time management, anesthesia, and post-operative patient care.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:

 

  • Associate's degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within twelve (12) months
     

 

Skills Needed:

  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Strong oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspects of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
     

 

What is Helpful:

  • Teaching and computer experience
  • Experience in a veterinary practice or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Emergency or critical care experience
  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital, or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice
