Small Animal Surgery Technician Supervisor

The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to lead and supervise the Small Animal Surgery Team. Along with typical supervisor duties such as scheduling, overseeing daily workflow, recruiting, ongoing training, and evaluation of the technicians, the Small Animal Surgery Technician Supervisor is also expected to work at least 3 shifts a week on the hospital floor with the team. Typical shifts may involve assisting with anesthesia induction and monitoring, patient prep, OR circulating, and patient recovery.


All technicians in the Teaching Hospital have the opportunity to provide instruction and support to veterinary and veterinary technician students, veterinary and technician interns, and residents. We are looking for someone with a knowledge of physiology, surgical nursing technique, leadership skills, and a great attitude. Teaching opportunities exist every day on the hospital floor as well as chances to teach in the classroom and labs. Purdue boasts VTS technicians in 8 different specialties including Surgery, Anesthesia/Analgesia, Emergency/Critical Care, and Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a beautiful campus that supports both a College of Veterinary Medicine as well as an Associate and Bachelor degree program in Veterinary Nursing. All technicians in the teaching hospital teach and mentor students throughout the year. The Small Animal Surgery team works Monday-Friday with rotating on-call responsibilities for nights, weekends, and holidays.   • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Three years of experience as a credentialed technician
  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within twelve (12) months
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Good oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally



  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice
