Job Summary

Purdue University is seeking a Student Affairs Specialist to support the mission of LEAD within the Roger C. Stewart Office of Student Leadership, Engagement, and Community (SLEC). In this role, you will contribute to enhancing the overall quality of the student life experience by serving as a trusted resource and advisor to student organizations, councils, officers, and university staff. You will cultivate and manage partnerships that strengthen student leadership opportunities across all SLEC units, Student Life, and the broader university community. While primarily assigned to a specific unit, you will also assist with leadership development programming and student support initiatives throughout all areas of SLEC.

 

This position focuses on providing intentional opportunities for leadership development that cultivate self-awareness, effective communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and an understanding of how students can leverage their individual strengths as they progress through Purdue. You will play a key role in empowering students to develop these essential skills to succeed both academically and as campus leaders.

 

The role requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours to meet student and program needs. What We Are Looking For

Experience and Education:

 

Required:

  • Two (2) years of professional experience providing direct student service in higher education.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in higher education, college student development, student affairs counseling, student personnel services, or a related field.

 

Skills:

  • Effective rapport building and strong interpersonal skills, including excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing a wide variety of outreach and educational programs.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and ability to complete multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex and sensitive problems creatively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to grasp knowledge of policies and procedures related to different aspects of student services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with campus departments, student groups, and colleagues.
  • Ability to discern appropriate level of communication with multiple audiences and maintain confidentiality around complex and sensitive issues to comply with applicable ADA, FERPA, and other applicable state, federal, University, and College of Professional Studies guidelines.
  • Knowledge of college-student development issues and commitment to student service with a vested interest in staying abreast of research in the field of academic and student affairs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility in work assignments and work hours to include some evenings and weekends.
