Job Summary
Join Purdue University’s Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) department as a Data Governance Assistant. As a member of IDA+A’s Data Governance Team, the Data Governance Assistant will support a collaborative campus-wide effort to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and responsibly used. Gain hands-on experience with metadata management, system documentation and training, and the governance processes that drive transparency and informed decision-making. As part of the Office of the Provost, IDA+A directly supports the academic enterprise as well as the campus at large.
Job Summary
- Assist in system administration tasks and auditing for Data Cookbook, Purdue’s enterprise metadata management software.
- Create and update the following documentation:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP): This comprehensive SOP will serve as a guide for efficient and consistent system administration practices for all process inevitabilities related to Data Cookbook.
- User Management Plan: The User Management Plan will outline user roles, access controls, and permissions to ensure secure and organized usage of Data Cookbook.
- Technical and Non-Technical Documentation: Create both technical and non-technical documentation for Data Cookbook.
- Metadata Writing: Contribute to the development and maintenance of metadata within Data Cookbook.
- Collaborate with the IDA+A Data Governance team and key university partners through team and project meetings.
Description of Key System
Data Cookbook: Purdue’s enterprise metadata tool for documenting and sharing data definitions report specifications, dashboards, and more. It supports consistent data use across campus and is a key component of the university’s data governance strategy.
Qualifications
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; quick to learn new software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Works well both independently and in a team setting.
Additional Information
- This position is for 1 hourly student worker.
- 10 hours per week with flexible working hours, to start as soon as possible. At least 5 hours of work must take place during business hours (Monday – Friday, 8am – 5 pm Eastern Time).
- Must be available for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, with potential for reappointment in future semesters based on performance.
- Opportunity for Summer 2026 remote internship.
- Pay is $13/hour.
- Fully remote option available, office space available in Wang Hall in West Lafayette. Position available for Purdue University students studying in West Lafayette and Indianapolis.
