Student Community Specialist

Job Summary

This position is responsible for creating and supporting events and programs that enhance Honors students' engagement and sense of belonging in the Honors College experience. The emphasis is on meeting the needs of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Honors College students as they move closer to graduation with Honors and into their careers or graduate study. The Student Community Specialist collaborates with/assists the Student Community Manager in idea generation, coordination, and facilitation of any events and programs in the unit. Honors students are the target audience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and facilitate events and programs that enhance the engagement of students as their Honors College experience evolves
  • Work will involve the creation and initiation of new programs as well as the improvement and implementation of existing programs targeting 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year students (upper-division students) to match their changing needs as they move closer to graduating with honors and into their careers or graduate study
  • Attending events is generally required and includes weekends/evenings
  • Collaborate with/assist the Student Community Manager in idea generation, coordination (e.g., logistics, on-site leadership), and facilitation of all other events and programs offered by the Community and Engagement unit
  • Assesses programs and makes minor updates for improvements
  • Initiates planning and facilitation of professional development and research-related programming 

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Two (2) years of relevant, professional experience
  • Familiarity with and experience in event and program planning, development, and implementation; experience in career and professional development for students 
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing environment

 

Preferred:

  • Master's degree

 

Additional Information:  

  • The salary range for this position is $45,000-$48,000
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position  
  • A background check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility:  Defined Contribution Waiting Period
