Job Summary

The Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation, upkeep and coordination of server hardware and related components for university data center facilities. Work very closely with the full-time Data Center staff on fulfillment of ticket requests for server cabling, racking, installation, and decommissioning. Maintain facilities properly, dispose of trash, and perform other duties as assigned.  Students employed in this role will develop and demonstrate a number of transferable skills essential for future employment success.  Key skills and responsibilities associated with this position include:

Required Qualifications:

The ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions required.  Basic knowledge of Data networking, Server Hardware, familiarity with simple hand tools, interest in Information Technology desired. 

Employee must be capable of accurate and clear communications in this role. The ability to follow written or verbal communications, follow-up and report/record task assignments, and provide timely feedback to customers through the ticketing and request for services tool, are all key to success in this position.

Employee must be responsible, follow safety and procedural protocols, work efficiently and safely, and be thorough in completion of tasks.

Must be comfortable in asking questions, possess customer service skills, and willing to take initiative.

Employee will work supervised and unsupervised at times. Must be comfortable in working with others and assist other groups when necessary.
