Systems Administrator

Job Summary

The Lab Administrator will develop, implement, and make modifications to installation of programs and software for Purdue's Learning Spaces computing environment.  Coordinate software and hardware installation, maintenance, and support.  Develop and assist others in the creation of software "packages" workstation deployment in the computing labs and classrooms.  Design, develop, test, modify, configure, implement, and document computing programs and utilities on desktop computers and terminal servers; including creating scripts and programming.  Identify and report software bugs or instances of incompatibility to software vendors.  Work with IT Customer Relations and ItaP staff to recommend annual hardware and software requirements and purchases.  Provide usage reports and statistics as necessary to document system usage and availability.  Maintain and upgrade applicable job skills as identified and required by the Learning Spaces Support team.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two or more years of related IT experience
  • At least one year system administrator experience in a LAN networking/distributed computing environment supporting MS Windows or Macintosh OS
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of computer operations, including familiarity with Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX operating systems. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to learn and use programming languages
  • Self-motivation and ability to work without supervision on daily tasks and projects
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team to complete larger projects

 

PREFERRED:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • MS Windows, Macintosh OS, and UNIX experience
  • Knowledge of C, VB script, WinBatch, PowerShell, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) installer and batch files
