Job Summary

As part of the data governance team within Purdue University’s Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) Office, the Systems Analyst supports faculty affairs systems, mainly Elements, the faculty reporting tool used to track and report on faculty research, teaching, and service. The position reports to the Senior Systems Analyst and works closely with them to maintain the application, troubleshoot issues, and implement new features and workflows that meet campus business needs. The Systems Analyst is expected to develop in-depth knowledge of the system and serve as a technical resource for faculty, staff, and campus partners.

 

Responsibilities:

Data Management and Quality

  • Run and monitor data automation, integration, and migration processes.
  • Review large data files for system alignment, user needs, and automation tasks.
  • Identify, investigate, and fix data quality issues.

 

System Configuration and Requirements

  • Gather and document business requirements from stakeholders, assess application impact, and help recommend solutions.
  • Configure and test Elements to meet the needs of the academic campus community.
  • Work with the vendor on support cases, enhancement requests, and system updates.

 

User Support and Documentation

  • Respond to end-user technical support tickets and escalate complex issues to the Senior Systems Analyst as needed.
  • Create and maintain documentation, including procedures, configuration notes, and user guides.

 

System Knowledge and Professional Development

  • Keep current on new features and enhancements for Elements and related faculty affairs systems.
  • Maintain and develop technical expertise through professional development, including training and conferences.

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $65,000.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on various factors, including internal equity, available budget, and relevant experience.

What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, Library and Information Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience configuring, administering, reporting tools, or supporting a software application or enterprise system.

 

Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues methodically and document how they were resolved.
  • Working knowledge of relational data concepts and experience querying or manipulating data.
  • Experience reviewing, cleaning, and validating large data files.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical topics to non-technical users.
  • Customer-service focus when answering support requests.
  • Ability to manage several tasks and deadlines with guidance.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and take direction from a senior team member.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Symplectic Elements or a similar faculty reporting system.
  • Experience with data integration, ETL, or automated data feeds.
  • Scripting experience, such as with Python or PowerShell, for automating data tasks.
  • Experience with ticketing systems such as TeamDynamix.
  • Familiarity with data governance concepts, including data standards, data stewardship, and metadata.
  • Experience working in higher education or another academic environment.
  • Understanding of faculty activities and processes, such as annual reviews, promotion and tenure, or research reporting.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and turning them into system solutions.
  • Experience working with vendors on support cases or enhancement requests.
