Job Summary
IT Systems Engineer
Purdue University – Enterprise IT
Help power the systems that keep a world-class university running. At Purdue, IT professionals play a key role in supporting teaching, research, and business operations, providing reliable, forward-looking technology that enables the campus community to thrive. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern cloud-based platforms, collaborate across teams, and contribute to an environment that values innovation, growth, and impact.
Position overview
The IT Systems Engineer is a fully competent, productive professional responsible for application and operating system administration, installation, support, and technical coordination for various enterprise-level IT services at Purdue. These services include the university’s business ERP and integrated third-party information systems, primarily cloud-based applications with critical integrations back to the ERP. You will help ensure these systems are stable, secure, and optimized so campus partners can do their best work.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide administration, installation, configuration, and day-to-day support for enterprise business applications, including ERP and related third-party systems, in a cloud or hybrid environment.
- Proactively monitor, test, and maintain applications and integrations to recognize issues early and implement solutions that prevent or minimize customer impact.
- Troubleshoot moderately complex issues, collaborating with team members to design and develop scripts, tools, and utilities that improve reliability and operational efficiency.
- Assist database administrators as needed in identifying and resolving application and performance issues affecting supported systems.
Projects, design, and coordination
- Participate in and often lead technical aspects of projects that introduce new products or upgrades, providing design recommendations, configuration, and support for architecture, implementation, integration, and ongoing maintenance.
- Coordinate and communicate with developers, campus customers, third-party vendors, and other IT groups to ensure business and technical requirements are clearly understood and successfully delivered.
- Serve as project manager for small to mid-sized integration projects and enhancements, helping define scope, manage timelines, and track progress to completion.
What we’re looking for
- Experience supporting enterprise or mission-critical applications, preferably ERP or similar business systems, in a cloud or hybrid environment.
- Proficiency with system administration and a working knowledge of scripting or automation tools to monitor systems and streamline operational tasks.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve moderately complex issues and contribute to long-term solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the institution.
Why Purdue
At Purdue, IT talent is part of a collaborative community dedicated to excellence, discovery, and service. In this role, you’ll find challenging work, opportunities to grow your technical and project skills, and the satisfaction of knowing your contributions help move the university—and the people it serves—forward.
This is a remote position but you will be asked to meet onsite for trainings and meetins as necessary.
