Tenure/Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor of Cardiology

Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Tenure/Clinical track faculty position in Cardiology at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. 

 

The successful candidate will join an established clinical service, which includes 2 tenured faculty, 2 technicians, and 2 cardiology residents.  The comparative cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology service is well equipped with digital ECG, GE Vivid E9 echocardiography with digital database and review station, GE VividQ, Medtronic and St. Jude/Abbott pacemaker programmers, and hemostatic assays including thromboelastography and platelet aggregometry.  The service has a dedicated 650 ft2 stand-alone interventional catheterization laboratory that is extensively equipped including invasive hemodynamic recording system, cardiac output computers, and Philips Pulsera digital C-arm. The service has a busy interventional caseload with approximately 70-100 cases annually.

Learning, Discovery and Engagement

The successful candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the College and Department. These activities include: Service and Engagement: Clinical duties will include primary case responsibility, training of cardiology residents, teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology students, provision of consultation to other services within the hospital, and participation in the extension cardiology service. Learning: Emphasis will be on clinical training of DVM students, house officers, and veterinary technician students. Participation in didactic teaching is also expected. Discovery: Clinical track faculty level are expected to participate in and contribute to collaborative research that complements and builds on current interests and strengths of the cardiovascular medicine service, department, and College.  Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program in cardiology.   Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, house officers, referring veterinarians, and animal owners.  The College is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development and there is a formal faculty mentoring program in place.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or board eligibility in cardiology from the ACVIM or ECVIM (board certification required to be considered for Associate Professor).  Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
