Senior Utilities Materials Expediter — Energy and Utilities Department
Physical Facilities, Purdue University | West Lafayette, IN

 

Purdue University’s Physical Facilities department is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Procurement Specialist to support the Energy and Utilities (E&U) team. This position plays a vital role in the seamless operation of our campus infrastructure by ensuring that materials, equipment, and services are efficiently ordered, tracked, and delivered to meet the needs of our utility operations.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Manage the procurement process for construction and maintenance materials and services within the Energy and Utilities Department
  • Collaborate closely with Utility Engineers, Project Managers, E&U Supervisors, Crew Chiefs, craft personnel, and vendors to coordinate information and ensure timely delivery of goods and services
  • Support all facets of procurement, from routine orders to immediate or exception-based purchasing with full authority
  • Solicit and evaluate competitive quotes to secure value and quality for the university
  • Assist with developing and refining inventory procedures for the storeroom and warehouse to optimize efficiency and accountability

What We're Looking For

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience required; of which 2 years in materials management experience and 1 in customer service needed

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience with parts and inventory, as well as stockroom activities
  • Including SAP inventory modules
  • Industrial maintenance experience
  • Experience reading blueprints, project plans and developing bills of materials

 

Skills Needed:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office necessary

 

Preferred:

  • Operating material handling equipment including lift trucks
