Job Summary

 

Purdue Veterinary Hospital is hiring amazing Veterinary Assistants to support our Intermediate Care Ward! The Intermediate Care Ward, located in the brand new Brunner Complex, will house stable patients that still require 24-hour care. Veterinary Assistants will be responsible for patient care (walking, feeding, and cleaning) and restraint for physical exams, blood draws, and procedures. All members of the team are respected for their knowledge and experience and recognized for their contributions of educating students and helping us to provide fantastic patient care. The brand new Brunner Purdue Veterinary Hospital Complex adds 65,000 square feet of state-of-the-art space for continuous care of our small animal hospitalized patients. Veterinary assistants in the Intermediate Care Ward will work closely with the ER/ICU team to provide around the clock care, and schedules may rotate through day/night shifts as well as weekends and holidays. Schedules will be discussed during the interview.

S2 requirements:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three years of relevant work experience (1 year in a veterinary hospital setting or related experience and 2 years of customer service experience)

 
S3 requirements:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Four years of relevant work experience (2 years in a veterinary hospital setting or related experience and 2 years of customer service experience)

 
Required:

 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
  • Must have confidence around domestic animals and basic knowledge of animal husbandry

 
Preferred:

 

  • NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certificate
  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or multi-specialty veterinary hospital
