Job Summary
The Purdue Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to supervise the Large Animal Veterinary Nursing Team. This position will oversee scheduling, daily workflow, training, and evaluation of the veterinary technicians in the Equine and Farm Animal Hospitals, including the 24/7 Treatment Team. The supervisor is expected to work hospital floor shifts within the departments as well as designated desk time to perform management responsibilities. They will be assisted by Shift Coordinators who are also working within the different departments and can manage the day-to-day needs of the teams.
All veterinary technicians in the Purdue Veterinary Hospital have the opportunity to provide instruction to and support to veterinary nursing and veterinary students, veterinary interns, and residents. What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in veterinary technology
- Three years of experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital and/or veterinary specialty hospital
Skills Needed:
- Broad knowledge of anatomy/physiology in veterinary patients
- Experience working on the hospital floor in a large multi-specialty veterinary hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
- Patience with new learners
- Adaptability and the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
- Strong communication skills with adult learners
- Willingness to organize training programs and adapt to shifting priorities throughout the shift
Preferred:
- Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in any discipline
- Teaching/training experience
- Supervisory/Management experience
