Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to work with our Ophthalmology team. We get to work with a variety of species, both small and large animals, helping with medical management in addition to surgical procedures. What better gift can you give to an animal than helping retain or restore vision?  During their work during new consult and recheck appointments, veterinary technicians get to participate in teaching vet students, veterinary nursing students, interns, and residents. The team will also participate in microsurgery including cataract surgery in dogs and horses, laser procedures both intra and extraocular, preparing patients and their owners for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, and decontaminating and sterile processing micro surgical instruments. The team also helps with clinical research projects that may be the next big breakthrough in treating or curing ocular conditions.

What We’re Looking For:                                
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

 

  • AAS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  • May consider 10 years in a veterinary General Practice
  • Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire

 

Skills Needed:

  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English
  • Must possess knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate routine veterinary medical concepts and procedures to aid in instruction of veterinary students, and veterinary technology students
  • Must complete Purdue Veterinary Technician Basic Skills List prior to promotion to Senior Veterinary Technician
