Veterinary Technician (Neurology)

Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to work with our Neurology team. As a Neurology Technician, you will work alongside Neurologists, residents, and interns as well as Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Technician Specialists in Neurology. The Neurology team provides treatments and services for patients with a wide variety of neurological conditions, including brain and spinal surgery, seizure management, electrodiagnostic testing, and treatment for neuromuscular disease. Typical duties for this position include patient intake, assisting neurologic examinations, diagnostic sample collection, anesthesia, surgical circulating, neurologic patient care, and client education and communication. This position also provides the opportunity for continually expanding your knowledge, as well as learning and mastering new skills and techniques.

The Purdue Veterinary Hospital values credentialed veterinary technicians for the skill and knowledge they bring to the hospital, patients, and students. This position includes the opportunity teach and mentor veterinary and veterinary technician students throughout the year in both the clinical and didactic setting.

 

The Neurology team works M-F with rotating on-call responsibilities for nights, weekends, and holidays. This posting may be filled at multiple levels (S3 or S4). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

S3 requirements:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology

S4 requirements:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Two years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician

 

Required:

  • Must be RVT in Indiana within 12 months of starting employment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willing to teach clinical skills and concepts to students
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with and knowledge of neurological diseases and treatments
  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or multi-specialty veterinary hospital
