Veterinary Technician Supervisor (Small Animal Medicine Services)

Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to supervise the Medicine Services Team. The Medicine Services Supervisor will oversee scheduling, daily work flow, recruiting, training, and evaluation of the technicians in the Small Animal Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, and Behavior departments. The supervisor is expected to work hospital floor shifts within the departments as well as designated desk time to perform supervisory responsibilities.


All technicians in the Veterinary Hospital have the opportunity to provide instruction and support to veterinary technician and veterinary students, veterinary interns, and residents. We are looking for someone with a knowledge of physiology and advanced disease processes, leadership skills, and a great attitude. Teaching opportunities exist every day on the hospital floor as well as chances to teach in the classroom and labs. Purdue boasts VTS technicians in 8 different specialties including Surgery, Anesthesia/Analgesia, Emergency/Critical Care, and Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a beautiful campus that supports both a College of Veterinary Medicine as well as an Associate and Bachelor degree program in Veterinary Nursing. All technicians in the teaching hospital teach and mentor students throughout the year. The Medicine Services teams work Monday-Friday with rotating on-call responsibilities for nights, weekends, and holidays.   • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  • 3 years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire
  • Ability to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English
  • Must possess knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate both routine and advanced veterinary medical concepts and procedures to aid in instruction of Veterinary Technicians, interns, residents, veterinary students, and veterinary technology students
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally



  • Previous supervisory experience  
  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice
