Job Summary
The Purdue Large Animal team is looking to add a credentialed veterinary technician to our Farm Animal Team! We're looking for someone enthusiastic to work with cows, pigs, sheep, and goats providing both wellness care and emergency care to these species. Veterinary technicians in this role have the opportunity to both learn and teach working with a variety of cases and veterinary specialists in surgery and internal medicine. Typical duties include sample collection and preparation, surgical nursing, emergency recognition, and helping with inpatient medical treatments.
The veterinary technicians at Purdue have the opportunity to continually learn new skills and techniques. This knowledge leads to teaching those skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. The Purdue Veterinary Hospital values credentialed veterinary technicians for the skill and knowledge they bring to the hospital, students, and patients. What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in animal science, veterinary technology, education, instruction or closely related field
- Two years of experience working as a veterinary technician
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
Skills Needed:
- Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire
- Ability to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English
- Must possess knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate routine veterinary medical concepts and procedures to aid in instruction of veterinary students, and veterinary technology students
Preferred:
- Registered Veterinary Technician from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program
- University Veterinary Teaching Hospital or Veterinary Specialty Hospital as a credentialed veterinary nurse
