Job Summary

Visiting Assistant Professor, Full-Time, Non-tenure track, one academic-year contract.  Start Date: August 17, 2026

Responsibilities

The Department of Art & Design at Purdue University is seeking a visiting assistant professor with expertise in Industrial Design to teach a range of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Industrial Design program (up to eight classes per academic year).  Other duties include: advising and mentoring undergraduates, reviewing portfolios and resumes, and participating in Industrial Design and departmental events.

Qualifications

The candidates must have a Master’s degree in Industrial Design or related area or a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related area and at least three years of professional experience as an Industrial Designer.  Candidate should demonstrate design experience in a portfolio. Successful candidates will also be comfortable advising and engaging the students with professionals in industrial design and related fields of practice.  Candidates who have proficiency with materials and processes used in industrial design are preferred and or experience in interaction design.

Program/School

The Industrial Design program is composed of six faculty members with a wide range of expertise and offers a four-year undergraduate BFA degree and an MFA at the graduate level.  The program is accredited by NASAD.  The Industrial Design program now graduates 24 students each year with over 90% placement in industry.  To learn more about the ID program, including its courses, go to: https://cla.purdue.edu/academic/rueffschool/ad/industrial/ .
