About

PARI Microelectronics Lab

The PARI Microelectronics Lab conducts applied research and development focused on transitioning emerging microelectronics technologies into capabilities that address government and industry needs. PML works across academia, government, and the defense industrial base in areas including advanced packaging, heterogeneous integration, microelectronics test and characterization, modeling and simulation, and extreme-environment electronics.

PML's portfolio combines applied research, technical studies, technology transition, and workforce development, providing researchers opportunities to work on challenging microelectronics problems while helping develop the next generation of technical talent.

Job Summary

The Purdue Applied Research Institute, LLC (PARI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microelectronics to support research, technical studies, and workforce-development activities within the PARI Microelectronics Lab (PML).

This position provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of university research, government technology needs, and the defense industrial base. In addition to activities typical of a postdoctoral research appointment, the successful candidate will contribute to microelectronics-focused technical studies and analysis and the mentoring of undergraduate researchers and apprentices participating in PML programs.

The position is a one-year appointment located on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. Based on program needs, funding, and individual performance, the appointment may be extended or may lead to consideration for a full-time position with PARI.

Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support PML research and program activities, which may include:

  • Conduct research and technical studies in microelectronics and related technology areas.
  • Research, assess, and document emerging microelectronics technologies, capabilities, tools, processes, and technical approaches.
  • Perform technical analysis and develop reports, presentations, recommendations, and other program deliverables.
  • Mentor undergraduate students and apprentices performing microelectronics-related technical projects.
  • Work with Purdue faculty, PARI researchers, government technical personnel, and industry partners to guide student research and technical activities.
  • Assist students in translating academic knowledge into disciplined engineering practices, including technical planning, analysis, documentation, and communication of results.
  • Participate in technical reviews, project planning, and research discussions across PML programs.
  • Contribute to development of new research concepts, technical approaches, and proposals in support of PML's growing microelectronics portfolio.
  • As opportunities and funded research activities evolve, participate in applied research and development activities including modeling and simulation, experimentation, test and characterization, and other hands-on microelectronics engineering efforts.

Education

Required

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, materials engineering, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Research background relevant to microelectronics (Analog, Mixed-signal, Digital, RF/Microwave, photonic IC design, modeling, test and characterization), semiconductors, electronics, and advanced packaging modeling, simulation (electrical, thermal, mechanical or radiation) and fabrication, or related technology areas.
  • Ability to independently research complex technical topics, analyze information from multiple sources, and develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively with undergraduate and graduate students and provide technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Strong written and oral technical communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams involving academia, government, and industry.
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site at the Purdue University campus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance

Experience

Preferred

Experience or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • Advanced microelectronics packaging and heterogeneous integration
  • Semiconductor devices and technologies (design, modeling, fabrication, and test)
  • Microelectronics modeling and simulation
  • Electrical, thermal, mechanical, or environmental characterization
  • FPGA, digital hardware, or embedded systems
  • Microelectronics security, assurance, or trusted electronics
  • Microelectronics manufacturing and supply-chain technologies
  • Defense or national-security applications of microelectronics
  • Mentoring or supervising undergraduate researchers
