Instructional Laboratory Technician

What You'll Be Doing:


The Instructional Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing professional and technical assistance for the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AAE) teaching and hands-on laboratories. Responsibilities include:  

  • Coordinate setup and maintenance of lab equipment and lab furnishings
  • Assist with training students to use select equipment and machinery
  • Conduct and schedule maintenance of selected lab equipment 
  • Identify, recommend, and assist with the purchase of equipment and supplies
  • Ensure proper safety procedures and protocols are followed
  • Serve as a general technician to the AAE department and assist with facilities in Armstrong, including maintaining and repairing additional teaching and research laboratory equipment.

What We're Looking For:


Required Education and Experience: 

  • An Associate’s degree or technical degree in an engineering technology or related field
  • A combination of education and work experience will be accepted:
    • An Associates’ degree plus two years’ experience
    • High School diploma plus three years’ experience
  • Possess at least two years experience in maintaining machinery
  • Maintenance and repair of mechanics (solid and fluid) in teaching and research laboratory facilities, preferred


Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of standard and sophisticated laboratory equipment and procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with students, faculty, and staff
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including scheduling
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi-task, work under pressure, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, adapt to changing technology and techniques, and maintain quality of standards
